Want Answers To Your Hair Style Questions? Ask Us.

By Erica and Karen

For most of us, hair has always been a big deal.  When we reminisce about what we looked like way back when, we think about our hair, especially if it was really long, think Judy Collins, or really short, a la Audrey Hepburn. Our hairstyle was an integral part of our persona.

Hair said something at work, too. Taut, pulled back said one thing. Loose and curly (and, for Erica, really really big) said another. Styles that were maintenance free, or maintenance intensive, said something else. Then. as gray started popping up, at least those of us in the corporate world were quick to cover them. For most of us, though (with the exception of Karen who has had her spiky platinum hair for decades), we didn’t go too crazy. We were part of the establishment. And so was our hair.

But now that the external constraints are fewer, and we have options we never before considered, how do we think about the way we want to look? Color—gray or lowlights or highlights or something completely different—purple? Length—long or short or somewhere in between? Full Farrah Fawcett—a lot of of everything? Or shaved strategically? Bangs? Ombre shadows? How do we figure it out, especially if we want a change? And once we choose, how do we know if our choice make sense? Do we look good? Or do we look like we have lost our minds?

Well, Lustre Ladies, help is on the way. Two fabulous New York City hairdressers, who have been catering to prominent, successful women for decades (and are now styling their client’s children and grandchildren too), have offered to share their knowledge and perspectives with our readers. How should you think about color and gray? Louis, colorist extraordinaire, will tell you. What are the considerations for longer or shorter? Damien, stylist to the stars, will offer his expert advice. What products are best? Ask and they will answer.

Here’s how it will work. Send your questions to us through the comment button below, through our email at info@lustre.is, or via Facebook, with a current picture if you’d like. We will send them along to Louis and Damien. Then we’ll publish their answers in forthcoming posts, maybe with your picture.

And... watch out for an offer for a complete makeover. Coming soon!

Let’s have some fun with this!
