By Karen and Erica

Please join us on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 3 pm EST, when we will we interview Cathryn Jakobson Ramin as part of our continuing collaboration with Revel.

Revel is a social platform and trusted space for women over age 40--a community of women fully embracing the next chapter, and creating a fresh approach to midlife.

With Revel, we created Visible & Vital: a six-part series bridging generations and geography. We have now started a group, Redefining Retirement, in which members talk about their experiences of retirement, and share insights and strategies for dealing with this new status. As part of our continuing programming, we are presenting this talk as the first of an author series with women like Cathryn Jakobson Ramin, who have written about topics we feel are relevant, especially to our cohort.

Cathryn is an independent investigative journalist and the author of two books:

The brain is a key focus in Carved in Sand:

Anyone older than forty knows that forgetfulness can be unnerving, frustrating, and sometimes terrifying. With compassion and humor, acclaimed journalist Cathryn Jakobson Ramin explores the factors that determine how well or poorly one's brain will age.

The brain remains a key player in Crooked, as the source of both the pain and the solution—which gives us hope!

The first half of her book contains hair-raising stories of worthless and risky surgical techniques, dodgy government oversight, and unethical medical behavior. “It’s gone now,” chirps a surgeon about a patient’s disc herniation—before he goes on to operate anyway. The second half of the book, however, provides succor: successful, effective strategies for treating back pain.

Our conversation with Cathryn is sure to be provocative and enlightening. Please join us on Revel on Monday, November 22, at 3 pm EST.
