Honoring Our Freedom Fighters. Ten Must-Watch Shows.

By Erica and Karen

We hope this Memorial Day, wherever you are is sunny and bright, and you share a picnic with friends and family. Maybe have your first gin and tonic of the year? Maybe your first hot dog of the season, with everything? Maybe an ice cream cone? Three scoops?

Memorial Day does remind us that we owe so many people who fought and died for us–-and those who do so today, and tomorrow. And not just in our country. Memorial Day is an American holiday, but we hail our allies as well.

Here are some of the shows that tell stories of war undertaken to preserve freedom.

  1. War Horse. WWI tragedy. A boy who loves a horse.

  2. Women at War. France, WWI. Netflix. Women dealing with war at home.

  3. Flags of our Fathers. WWII. The men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima. Clint Eastwood.

  4. A Call To Spy. WWII. Churchill asked women to spy. They were good at it.

  5. Their Finest. WWII. Making propaganda in England during the Blitz. Funny, but keep your hanky nearby.

  6. Saving Private Ryan. WWII. The Normandy landings. Tom Hanks.

  7. The Longest Day. WWII. The Normandy landings. John Wayne.

  8. Battle for Sevastopol. WWII. A deadly woman sniper in the Red Army. A joint Russian-Ukranian production. 2015.

  9. Megan Leavey. Iraq. A partnership between a woman and a dog.

  10. American Sniper  Navy S.E.A.L. Being a fighting legend has its costs. Bradley Cooper.
