Labor Day. No, Not The End Of Summer.

By Erica and Karen

Just as happens in mid-July when we start seeing wool clothes in shop windows, Labor Day brings us up short. Is summer really over? It flew by. We barely got into it. We have all that rosé left.

Back when we or our children were in school, summer really did end on Labor Day. One last cookout, some fireworks, and then time to face reality. Now, of course, back-to-school is rather different—for one thing, it starts before Labor Day—the weather stays warm, and life after COVID means much greater fluidity between work and home. So the seasons seem less delineated, for better or worse. Summer continues, but real life—school, work, purpose—never stops. Still, we have a vestigial sense that summer is relaxing and fall will not be, so we hate to see summer go.

Enjoy the day, however you feel about it!
