Cosmetics. Six New Ideas.

By Erica and Karen

We don’t know nearly as much as we should about cosmetics, but we are still fascinated by them. And we know we should learn more about using them.

Like everything else, the cosmetics world is changing. Here are some great new ideas:

  1. Eliminating water. Many creators have been focused on eliminating the water in their products. Doing so reduces the cost of shipping and packaging. We have seen that in various cleaning products, and now we see it in the cosmetics arena. Brava.

  2. Beauty Tech. What might beauty tech be? It is the use off smartphone and other technology to allow you to try on different shades of makeup, virtually—and even receive recommendations from manufacturers, without leaving home. (We’re ambivalent about virtual shopping for makeup, and we would want to test what makeup feels like, but this seems interesting.)

  3. Glow in the Dark. OK, we’re not sure we need glow in the dark cosmetics. But it sure would be fun to go into a movie during daylight and emerge at night and have our companions gawk. At our age, we can get away with just about anything!

  4. Personalized Skin Cream. We all know each of us has different skin. Now, AI and big data allow us to find skin care products formulated just for us. If they really work, it would be amazing!

  5. This Is What 70 Looks Like. We have not found too many credible sources of cosmetic ideas for women like us, but these seem interesting. And this video is a hoot—a mother going wayyyy above and beyond—allowing her daughter to give her a makeover. Some good ideas, though! And if anyone knows of other ways to get a makeup tutorial for women like us, do tell!

  6. Seriously red lipstick. Finally, we are partial to red red lipstick, particularly the red Bossy lipstick named for our friend, Cindy Gallop. Give it a try!
