Labor Day

By Erica and Karen

Labor Day is a great American holiday, when we honor the labor movement and the contributions of our workers.

But it may feel a bit empty now, like this abandoned coal mine. Workers like the ones who used to work here are under stress from all directions, including robots, now on the near horizon.

We think Labor is no relic. Labor is on the front lines of change. We have no choice but to embrace the global future, coming fast and furious, in which Labor has a critical role to play, with management, and government. Labor can generate creative responses to technological and other workplace changes. Labor can give workers a voice, a communications channel between them and those in power. Labor has a big job to do.

Happy Labor Day.
